Whenever someone mentions box jumps for fitness, I cringe. My mind's eye is fixed on the Russians and their version of plyometrics before the 1960 and 1964 Olympics. It was hellish jumps from one box to another five feet high in rapid succession. It was meant to give runners and jumpers more explosiveness.
They were called "depth jumps", but I called them "death jumps" because the wear and tear on the knees from the Soviet's intense training could be brutal.
Jump training has been modified by less ambitious people and that is this week's Insight. It is a big thing with athletic trainers and physical therapists for people who happen to be older.
Jump training builds your bone density AND improves your balance.

And this expert stresses improving bone density with jump training.
