Weekly Briefing: A Strong Heart. A Farmer Runs. Quick Workouts.

March 11, 2023
Three stories you might like to read.

1. How To Get A Strong Heart For Performance

I couldn't let this slip past the Geezer Jock desk. "Benjamin Levine, MD, is a practicing cardiologist and researcher with an amazing track record in Sports cardiology and cardiovascular physiology and exercise," says the website wiseathletes.com.

Among other things in this podcast to explore, Levine says, "The heart responds to the load that is placed on it."

He talks about "exercise-induced cardiac remodeling" and how the heart adapts.

Listen to this podcast from Levine about good heart health as you age.

2. A Farmer In 'The Ville

“I’m a slasher: athlete-slash-actor-slash-farmer, but right now, the best passion I have in my heart is to feed people because I look at the news and see that there is 16 million children starving every night, and that’s not including the parents. So my goal is to feed as many people as I can with the most nutritious food they can get.” Farmer Kevin Biggers will be entered in the 60-meter dash (60-64) in Louisville this weekend at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships. Root for him Saturday morning at 8:56 in the prelims.

I will try and post a clip by 10 a.m. You can try this link and click on 2023 on the left side of page and the video column.

 3. Yep, Short Workouts Work

I'm not giving up on trying to tease people out the door to walk. It doesn't take much to get your heart rate up and that's good for you. Tabata takes four minutes. It's been a thing for 27 years.
