Weekly Briefing: Senior Games Update. Running at 100.

Weekly Briefing
May 6, 2023

1. National Senior Games update
If you've been to Pittsburgh you will see things roll down hill a lot there. And when they roll down hill they bump into bridges, or rivers. Hard to find suitable flat land for softball not already taken by softball teams.

So the National Senior Games Association decided to move the softball national championships to Columbus, Ohio where flat is a way of life. The competitors shrugged as play started this week. Hand them a bracket and they would play on the moon. It is a terrific facility at The Berliner Sports Complex and hardly moonscape.

Speaking of which....according to Del Moon of the NSGA, there are 1,513 registered for softball. Of the 95 teams, 73 are female. "It is almost the same number of team as the previous games so the necessary move to a stand alone event did not impact participation," Del said.

The competition is May 3-8.

The expectation is there will be 11,000+ participants in the Steel City for the Senior Games. And, amazingly enough, the Pirates look good!

2. What have you done lately?
I don't know, dude, maybe run a 100 at a 100 years old? And do it in front of crowd of people at the most prestigious track meet in the U.S. this spring.

Here is a snippet of Lester Wright. This is motivation.

The Atomic Fireballs (55+) Will Be A Tough Out In NSGA Softball
They look athletic. They look juiced. They look ready to run-rule you.
They are 3-0 going into Saturday play.
