The Mini-Interview: Willie Spruill

What's on your Bucket List?
To compete in a Senior Games in all 50 states and to compete in a Masters track meet in the Bahamas, Costa Rica, England, Sweden, Poland, Canada, Japan, South Korea.
What motivates you to exercise?
First and foremost, I exercise for healthy aging and trying to slow aging. I exercise to be able to compete with the World's best athletes and for the comradery and positive energy I get from the athletes and families. I want to inspire as many people as I can to know that it's never too late to exercise. Age is just a number. Last but not least, I exercise to help teach the younger generation to keep at it physically and not stop after high school or college.
What is the best training tip you can give someone?
Set goals. Start slowly. We are not as strong or flexible as we once were. Incorporate weights. Don't be afraid to ask for help. There is a wealth of knowledge on the internet and in the Masters community. Find a coach, if you can afford it, either by Zoom  meetings or correspondence, or in-person. We all need encouragement and accountability.

What is your biggest athletic regret?
My biggest athletic regret is that I stopped all sports and training at age 38. I didn't return to the sport until age 59 and I was almost crippled. I wasted 21 years.
