Another Reminder From Geezer Jock. Lift.

Here is another story about how Geezer Jocks do not have to turn to dust and become invisible or stay inside.

Lift.

"The logic behind Greysteel is straightforward: Stronger muscles and bones are associated with longer life and better health. And heavy barbell lifting programs are proven to build strength. If you combine those two ideas, the inevitable decline that comes with aging is perhaps not quite so inevitable."

Here is the rest of the story.

Bummed that I couldn’t open the rest of the article. But you know I have come to love lifting and at 81 I’m still gaining strength. I’m not positive that I’ll be in shape to compete again after hip and knee replacements but I just might and I will if there’s a chance I can set records for other older women to shoot for. Knowing I’m strong inspires me to continue vegetable gardening, house projects and splitting wood. I was any other invisible old lady until I picked up the bar in an effort to reduce osteoporosis. Now I’m the stealth badass. I amaze the folks at Agway when I sling a 40 lb bag of dog food over my shoulder. My balance is so much better now. I rarely fall anymore. I feel confident and empowered not old and creaky. (And my bone density has actually increased!)
The lifting community is so much more than the young studs grunting at the gym. Lifters know, having been there, that you only compete with yourself. It’s not like you can just decide to lift a heavier weight than your competitor—you either can or you can’t. The iron doesn’t lie and it can’t be fooled. Start low and aim high. Show up and do the work.
